  • No, they are not a Spanish bullfighter in that they fight the bull to the death as part of a cultural tradition, nor are they rodeo clowns whose job is to entertain and engage the crowd.

A rodeo bullfighters’ job is to manipulate chaos. How you ask? They are the first responders in the arena during the bull riding event.

Their job is to protect cowboys by distracting the bull once they are bucked off, to intervene if a cowboy gets hung up or stuck to the bull, and to help the bull safely exit the arena. Sometimes, they may seem unnoticeable to the untrained eye as their first line of protection is to prevent the wreck before it happens, but other times, you may see them taking a hit from a bull to protect the rider.
