Our Cattle

We strive to raise healthy, happy animals with sustainable practices on while leaving the land better than we found it.

Commercial Cattle

Rafter U7 Ranch currently has a cow herd of about 150 mother cows, growing from our original 20 brockle-faced heifers that we partnered on with Dennis and Shelly Ericson in 2013. We bought those heifers out of the Lazy S Bull Sale

Our cows begin calving at the beginning of April here at Rafter U7 Ranch. Then when the grass is ready, the cows are hauled to pastures East of Wetaskiwin and West of Usona, where they spend their summers. Our heifers spend their summers out with a heifer bull on grass, east of Westaskiwin, at Get-A-Long Stock Farm.

In the fall, our cows head back to Get-A-Long Stock Farm, and the calves are weaned off of the cows. The calves then head to auction at VJV Ponoka to be sold as feeder calves.

Our cows and replacement heifers are fed at Get-A-Long Stock Farm until late February or early March, and then are hauled back home to Rafter U7 Ranch for calving. Then, the cycle repeats.

In 2021, Rafter U7 became an audited and certified VBP+ (Verified Beef Production Plus) operation. VBP+ is a voluntary, market-oriented, producer managed forward-looking program enabling Canada's beef industry to anticipate and meet emerging and growing demands for beef production systems throughout the Canadian beef value chain.

Miniature Cattle

Our miniature cattle herd is slowly growing! We have Omni, he’s a black and white (sometimes called blue) herd bull. Along with Omni, we also have two breeding females named Cookie and Big Moomma. Cookie looks kind of like a brown Oreo with a big white belt in the middle, and Big Moomma is red with a brockle-face.

As our herd grows, we will have cows, calves and bulls listed here for sale. Please check back soon!
